The Anglican Church in the Wollombi Valley; who are we?
The Anglican Church in the Wollombi Valley is a small but eclectic community made up of permanent residents and week-enders , all of whom have differing Christian backgrounds. This assorted membership meets together each week sharing their faith through the Anglican Australian Prayer Book and through Holy Communion. The invitation at the Eucharistic Celebration is that anyone baptised in any Christian denomination is welcome at the table.
After each service, everyone is invited to share in a cuppa and stay for a chat. Rumour has it that many a humorous tale is exchanged along with a few intellectual discussions. Monthly ecumenical Bible study further adds to the academic and spiritual growth of all Christians in the Valley.
St John’s Wollombi and St Mark’s Laguna are part of the Cessnock / Wollombi Parish. The Rector is the Reverend Sonia Roulston, based in Cessnock, who is assisted in running the parish by an assistant priest and several honorary ministers. In The Valley, the honorary priest is Fr. Graham Jackson who endeavours to harness the current congregation’s many talents and ideas.
The congregation in 2007 is re-organising. A Vestry group will be running the day-to-day business of the Valley Churches and organising planned events within the life of the Church. Fund-raising through Laguna Markets has proved invaluable along with the outreach of the general chat with locals and visitors. Come along on Australia day and meet Graham, the Vegetarian priest, cooking steaks at Wollombi Market and witness the power of the Spirit!
Whether visiting, wanting to reconnect with a Church or considering one of the Churches as your wedding venue, The Anglican Churches Of The Wollombi Valley extend a welcome and look forward to meeting you.
